I hope this note finds you with you having had a great week of networking and adding connections. If you check your network statistics each week you will definately feel better about the efforts you are putting in. I heard several great success stories this week about how people are making connections that are leading to actual business and several others landing interviews by using Linkedin. Keep the stories coming.
Here are your tips for this week:
Profile Tips--
You should be sure to use the first person ("I") to describe yourself and not the third person ("he" or "she")
Have you used words to descibe the results of your work instead of just listing your function?
Previous jobs: Have you given a description of which projects you did or which results you achieved in each previous job?
Have you written down 5 personal interests?
Have you filled in the 3 websites? And given them a specific name..Not "My Company", jazz it up abit.
Connection Tips--
How many questions of comments have you posted in any Alumni Group you are in?
Have you listed all your previous employement and searched them specifically?
How many times have you used "status update" (or what are you doing now") since you joined, get going on this.
How many recommendations have you written since you joined, remember my story about how to have a great Monday am?
Wildcard Tip or Question--
Try one of the Applications like Slide Share, or Box Net or Amazon Book List. Not only are you making available more pictures, powerpoints, pdfs, excel docs and word docs you are also making your self much more interesting than those people who do not use these powerful tools. They are a way to differentiate yourself in a world when that just may make the difference of getting the sale or the job. Also remember whenever you post something on your profile like an application change you are announcing that to your entire #1 connections, so why wait!

Welcome to Wayne's Linkedin Tips & Helps Vol #1.
I see many of you have really taken off adding connections and improving your profile since you attended the Linkedin Speed Training or heard me present at another Linkedin event. This effort will serve you well in increasing your reach and message for the branding and marketing you are spending time and effort on.
Each week I will attempt to bring a few things to your attention that will either reinforce some of the things we talked about or something "brand new" as relates to your adding connections, improving your profile or general linkedin efficiency. Let's get started, here are this week's helps:
Profile Tip--
Did you finish your profile to 100% complete so you are 40 time more effective on Linkedin, remember, why do it unless you are the most effective you can be?
If not here are some of the things you need to do:
-Entering current position
-Filling in two past positions
-Providing your education history (The more you list the more searching you can do automatically)
-Adding your profile summary (Remember the key words are soooooooooo important for searching effectiveness)
-Upload a profile photo (Do you want people to remember you from the event last night?)
-Give and receive recommendations. (Want to feel good about yourself, recommend a few people--right now!)

Did you download the Linkedin Outlook Toolbar? Do this by clicking the link at the bottom of the Linkedin Home page and follow instructions.

Welcome to Wayne's Linkedin Tips & Helps Vol #1.
I see many of you have really taken off adding connections and improving your profile since you attended the Linkedin Speed Training or heard me present at another Linkedin event. This effort will serve you well in increasing your reach and message for the branding and marketing you are spending time and effort on.
Each week I will attempt to bring a few things to your attention that will either reinforce some of the things we talked about or something "brand new" as relates to your adding connections, improving your profile or general linkedin efficiency. Let's get started, here are this week's helps:
Profile Tip--
Did you finish your profile to 100% complete so you are 40 time more effective on Linkedin, remember, why do it unless you are the most effective you can be?
If not here are some of the things you need to do:
-Entering current position
-Filling in two past positions
-Providing your education history (The more you list the more searching you can do automatically)
-Adding your profile summary (Remember the key words are soooooooooo important for searching effectiveness)
-Upload a profile photo (Do you want people to remember you from the event last night?)
-Give and receive recommendations. (Want to feel good about yourself, recommend a few people--right now!)

Did you download the Linkedin Outlook Toolbar? Do this by clicking the link at the bottom of the Linkedin Home page and follow instructions.
Wildcard Tip or Question--
Have you formulated a strategy?
Why are you on Linkedin?
What are you looking to achieve?

Once again several of you emailed me that you would not be able to attend and I do greatly appreciate that. Thank you.
I stood up, said 'good morning' and Stan took over from there. I was surprised and grateful. What a pleasant event. Sometimes it's nice when someone else drives.
The meeting was nicely moderated and I am encouraging each and every one of you to take a turn. There's really very little to it. Meet and greet.
"Exude confidence, not desperation." was his tip for the day.

Burt stood up and said he is in the same business as we are. A very clever way to introduce SendOutCards. We do need to send more cards. Talk to Burt. He can help.
He also mentioned the book Book Yourself Solid, by Michael Port.

JoeNetworks 5/13/09
Hey Joe,
On Tuesday last, Sandy Walden emailed that she was getting plenty of hits on her site and not enough calls.
Could we look at her site? And, even with the short turnaround time, she got good, solid, actionable notes
from us this morning. And she won the breakfast kitty. Yaay Sandy!
Some of the observations included considering Reiki as something unknown and apart from Christian
beliefs and therefore a thing to be skipped. Needs a fix. Someone else said that she might be interested in
Reiki and went to click off Sandy's site and go to one of her listed resources; a competitor.
Someone thought the front page blog took up too much space and that someone might be more inclined
to read a blog once we know more about her and her business.
Some said the presentation was too personal. Some said not personal enough.
Someone wondered if Sandy was a certified coach. She is. Is the certification not communicated
clearly enough? Is there a logo from the certifying body?
Charlie - Thanks for referring your contact to my niece regarding her intern position. I think they
communicated and Sarah, through other contacts, has found a spot near her work. We thank you.
Joline said that John Phillips is the featured Business of the Month at her North Shore Bank. Cool.
Christine is getting connected and busy. Prom season.

He also says that he's so booked with PC repair projects that he's having a tough time keeping up with administrative duties. Nice problem to have. He also spoke to us briefly about his affiliation with mobile broadband on Cricket. Interesting and worth a follow-up.

We have been without homework for several weeks. That is one of the areas in which we shine. Do we need to come up with another hallmark?
There was chatter about Skype. Should we encourage group presentations on topics? Would you be willing to co-present?

SPIN Selling by Neil Rackham, recommended to me by our guest Joyce Goulet.
I had an hour session at SCORE and was lucky to meet Joyce. Perhaps seven seconds went by and she saw that I needed help with Sales. How handy is that - she's a Sales trainer.
SPIN refers to the types of questions asked in a sales
meeting. S = Situation, P = Problem, I = Implication, N = Need-payoff. This book differentiates between large sales and small sales and presents observations assembled from thousands of actual sales calls.
I also mentioned a book I got from the library - StrengthsFinder 2.0 http://www.strengthsfinder.com
Don't bother with the website unless you buy the book. There is nothing there for anyone that has not first purchased the book and gotten the access code from the book. However the book, according to Pat who read it overnight, is merely a teaser for the website.
An interesting way to sell books.

Meeting Notes Feb. 4th
Pam asked about the upcoming Alverno class on Linkedin and Social media. It is one class spread over two nights. It is part 1 and part 2 of the same class for $49.

• This morning we'd done some homework on behalf of Greg Kane. 414-856-9004 - greg@kwsins.com He's looking at getting a makeover on his website. We helped him come up with some questions to ask the new provider. The biggie was on becoming an expert - a little how and why on producing and delivering more informational tips to his insurance customers.
• Bryan Gnadt of Cablecom won the breakfast kitty this morning. Thanks to everyone and ten bucks to Bryan. We might be able to help him with his presentation. However, there's not much we can do about his print or web material as those are corporate decisions. We reinforced an idea he's had that it might be worthwhile to explore Linkedin.com and Meetup.com
